How Do I Open a 2010 Drawing with OEM 2008?
Posted on January 9, 2012OEM 2008 will open AutoCAD 2007-format drawings as well as all previous versions of AutoCAD. But it will not open 2010 format.
One note about AutoCAD formats: AutoCAD changes the format of the drawing every three years, so AutoCAD 2007, 2008, 2009 use AutoCAD 2007 format. AutoCAD 2010, 2011, 2012 use AutoCAD 2010 format. In 2012, AutoCAD is releasing AutoCAD 2013, and that format will run through 2015.
Use VidCAD Assist
The easiest way to do this is to open the drawing in VidCAD Assist from your VidCAD Main Menu.

Querying Smarter
Posted on November 7, 2011Many commands in VidCAD offer a Query option to allow you to select a group of equipment or cables including Equipment Recall, Cable Edit, Equipment Delete, Interconnect etc. Most users know that you can type information in the query field to narrow down your search but that search is only “from start” which means it looks only at the beginning of the name.
In the example below you will see how you can enter a search wildcard in the query window to enhance your search in Equipment Recall.
In this project we have selected, Equipment Recall and you will see there are almost 3000 pieces of equipment.

BricsCAD Crosshairs
Posted on October 24, 2011While BricsCAD, our newest design engine, shares many of the same commands and the same general look as our older AutoCAD application, there are times when it can be a little frustrating to locate settings that we often take for granted, like the size of your drafting cross hairs.
Again, like AutoCAD, the default crosshairs are not much bigger than the aperture:
And like many programs, it's a matter of locating the proper setting.

Overriding Osnap on the Fly
Posted on September 28, 2011Many commands in VidCAD 3-D, as well as diagram, turn on a specific OSNAP setting or a combination of settings, like endpoint or intersection. But there are times when that OSNAP setting (or NO OSNAP setting at all) doesn't fit your particular move or command.
There is quick and simple way to override that setting: Ctrl/right-click.
You will get this dialog:
